On the puppyfind site you can pull up all ads by a person. See if they have only the breed you are interested in or if they have multiple breeds.

If they have more than two breeds or more than two litters advertised, you are most likely looking at a puppy mill ad. Missouri is one of the states with many puppy mills but there are others as well. I raise and show one breed now but in the past had two breeds that I raised and showed. Do not be fooled by people marking the "show quality" box if the champion sire or champion bloodline box is not checked.

Champion bloodline is also misued. In my opinion, if there is not a champion parent or at least two champion grandparents, then they are not champion bloodline. The "designer dogs" are also a ripoff. You can get a purebred of one of the breeds for the same amount of money in most cases and know what your dog will look like as an adult.

The mixes can turn out not looking like either breed or having the personality traits of either breed. Basically the "designer dogs" are mutts. The fact that someone can register them with CKC or some other registry does not make them a purebred breed. AKC is the only legitimate dog registry that can trace the ancestors of your dog for many, many generations.

Someone posted that no reputable breeder would advertise on Puppyfind, but that is not true. There are reputable breeder like myself who advertise there, but the buyer must look out for the bad breeders and scam artists who are also advertising there.

I totally agree that a buyer must look at other listings by the seller. As of this writing, there is a seller listing 5 different breeds of puppies for sale totaling 19 ads.

I've seen listings from this seller before, and she apparently breeds darn near every kind of dog you can imagine at one time or another. I've brought this to Puppyfind's attention in the past, and received a response of "We don't understand your issue.". Seriously. Puppyfind could do a whole lot better in vetting advertisers.

But they will take anyone's money, puppy mill or reputable breeder.

If you don't want to get burned, go online and search for breeders of the type of dog you want. Do your homework and be prepared to wait for a pup to become available. Visit the breeder and pick up your new baby in person. Educate yourself on how to read pedigree paperwork, become very familiar with health issues common in the breed and certifications addressing those issues in the dog's pedigree going back at least three generations.

And there is so much more to look for. If you don't want a sickly dog or one that dies on you way before its time, do your due diligence.

I'm looking for a golden retriever in the state of Missouri but I want to find one that's not from a puppy mill do you have any advice for me?

Or where else should I look under what website?

I totally agree. I am a reputable breeder of dobermans and I see things on here that are crazy.

They are pretty easy to see usually. Like the people who sell dogs for $350 including shipping. If you click to see all their ads, they will have like 50 which are actually photos they stole from other sellers. And no way can you ship a puppy and sell it for $350.

And what ticks me off are the albino breeders saying they have rare whites. An albino is a defect and have many health issues. I tried to get puppyfind to not allow these people to advertise. And when you confront the sellers, they curse you out, so that should tell you something too.

Do your homework and get a puppy you are willing to drive to pick up and make sure it is at their home where the dogs are raised.

Use some common sense and don't let these evil people profit from your heartache. There are good breeders on here but you have to be careful as with anything these days.

I have used puppyfind for many years and have found them to be fair and to be a good site. as you stated there is many good breeders that use this service...it is up to the consumer to research tohe breeder they are buying from.....it is very sad that there is so many bad "breeders" out there that are not responsible and care about their dogs and sell sick puppies. Puppyfind is only a service and I have found it to be a good one....

How would I go about researching the breeder?
